Angioedema, also commonly referred to as Quincke's edema, refers to the rapid swelling of the dermis, subcutaneous tissue, mucosa and submucosal tissues. The word angioedema is a combination of the medical prefix "angio" meaning "a vessel, usually a blood vessel," and "edema" meaning swelling. The nervous system was once thought to be involved in the condition, though this belief is no longer common.

I was diagnosed with this condition about 8 years ago. It is not a fun thing to have. My condition occurs from certain foods and medication. I have to be very careful in what I eat because the foods I'm eating contains the allergens that will potentially put me in the hospital. I always keep Benadryl on me to slow down the swelling until I can get emergency care. Not fun to have at all.
